Rescued from the same suspiciously monochromatic Ontario colony as Fievel Meowskewitz and Gadget Hackwretch, Despurreaux has emerged as its most committed method actor: a tiny, snow-white kitten who is absolutely convinced he is the protagonist of an epic hero’s journey, despite weighing approximately two pounds and occasionally tripping over his own feet.

Named in honor of literature’s most improbably courageous mouse, this kitten brings that same unshakable bravery to every aspect of daily life. Ceiling-height cat trees? Scalable. Much larger animals? Potential friends. The vacuum? A worthy adversary, and frankly, it started it. He launches himself into the world with a kind of earnest, slightly misguided confidence that suggests he has never once considered the possibility of failure - and, to be fair, usually lands on his feet anyway.

But beneath the heroics is a kitten who is deeply, almost aggressively affectionate. Despurreaux doesn’t just like people - he believes in them. He will follow you from room to room like a loyal squire, gaze up at you as though you’ve just delivered a moving monologue about honor, and then promptly fall asleep on your chest as if the quest has been temporarily adjourned for cuddles.
