Every rescue who practices TNR encounters the same dilemma: do these kittens belong indoors, or have they already pledged their allegiance to life on the streets? When Helaena and Aegon were trapped in a Perris parking lot, we honestly didn’t know the answer. They were old enough that returning them after spay and neuter would have been a perfectly reasonable outcome. Instead, they proved that first impressions, much like succession plans in House Targaryen, have a remarkable tendency to fall apart under closer inspection.

HELAENA: A breathtaking long-haired calico with enough regal elegance to make the Iron Throne seem almost unnecessary, Helaena glides through life with the quiet confidence of someone who already knows how every story ends. Like her namesake, she possesses an air of serene mystery, observing far more than she lets on and dispensing her affection only after she’s decided you’re worthy of an audience. But once you’ve earned a place in her court, you’ll discover an incredibly sweet, gentle girl who rules with kindness rather than dragonfire.

AEGON: Like his namesake, Aegon has discovered that being adored by the masses is actually quite enjoyable. Unlike his namesake, however, he has thoroughly earned it. Equal parts court jester and professional cuddle enthusiast, this ridiculously affectionate boy is convinced every lap was created exclusively for him. He greets people with infectious enthusiasm, loves absolutely everyone he meets, and possesses the sort of unwavering devotion that, had it existed in King’s Landing, might have prevented several seasons’ worth of bloodshed.

Fortunately, these Targaryens have no interest in civil wars, contested succession, or feeding anyone to dragons. They’re simply searching for a forever kingdom filled with sunny windows, soft blankets, and humans wise enough to recognize true royalty when they see it.
