Meet MARILYN MEWNROE!

With her spectacular calico coat, naturally occurring curls, and perfectly positioned beauty mark, Marilyn is unusual, glamorous, and absurdly stunning —the sort of creature whose appearance tends to precede her into a room. Unfortunately for Marilyn, being captivated by a beautiful face and being interested in the individual behind it have never been the same thing.

For four years, Marilyn lived in a home where she had been chosen, presumably, because she was gorgeous. However, what followed was hardly pretty. The resident children routinely chased and tormented her until the space beneath a bed became less a retreat than her primary residence. Eventually — mercifully, even — she was surrendered.

It is an uncomfortably appropriate biography for someone named Marilyn: adored for the packaging, but never really considered as a living creature with preferences, boundaries, and an interior life of her own.

Remarkably, Marilyn doesn’t seem particularly bitter about any of it. Freed from the exhausting business of being somebody else’s beautiful possession, she is becoming increasingly interested in simply being herself. She is gentle, inquisitive, and quite confident about making her own social arrangements. She seeks out attention from humans, has begun initiating friendships with other cats, and seems genuinely interested in discovering what everyone is doing and whether any of it might concern her.

Although she still appreciates a little patience, Marilyn is hardly hiding under the proverbial bed. Give her the freedom to decide when and how she participates, and she does — with increasing enthusiasm. After four years in which other people dictated the terms of nearly every interaction, she seems rather pleased to have finally acquired some agency.

Marilyn has already spent plenty of time being noticed for her famous face. This time, we’d like to find someone attracted to the considerably more captivating individual behind it.
